Autism Spectrum Disorder (or ASD of Autism) is a condition that can have many symptoms. Autism Spectrum Disorders can lead to difficulties in communication and social interaction. This could also cause behavioral problems.

This is not true for all. There are many people with autism who can live beyond their diagnosis, despite unique challenges. Gregory Chabolla, a woodworker, is one such person.

Gregory Chabollas’ Story: From Heavy Diagnosis, To A Woodworking Company

Gregory was 3 years old when he was diagnosed with the Pervasive Development Disorder Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS) form of autism. Michelle, Gregory’s mom, asked us about Gregory’s childhood years and how he managed his condition.

Michelle: The diagnosis at that time was 1 in 10,000 children. This is a difficult question to answer because he and i were fighting society, schools, and all that it brings. It was survival that was the goal at that point. We can’t give you a quick answer about what he and me went through over the next 15 years of schooling and growing up.

It is true that autism and the changes it causes to families’ lives can be difficult to understand until you experience it. Gregory and his family received a severe diagnosis.

Michelle: According to several specialists, he cannot speak, dress, eat, or write. So take him home and show your love for him.

Gregory didn’t let his diagnosis define him. He had the support of his family. Gregory was able accomplish more than was expected by his doctors. He began to take an interest in woodworking, becoming a skilled woodworker.

Michelle: He’s amazing. He is a scroll saw artist who has a lot of success and also works weekends at Einstein Bagels. He has one job, and he also owns his own business.

Gregory was sparked to learn more about woodworking by meeting a fellow woodworker. We are often familiar with power tools like our favorite and most powerful professional chainsaws. But it takes someone to introduce us to it. We asked him how woodworking was introduced to him.

Gregory: When I was a child, I saw my Grandma’s and Grandpas neighbors, Patsy Williams making crosses with a saw. It was amazing and it looked great.

Gregory was very interested in woodworking and Patsy agreed that he would learn from her. They began with simple woodworking projects and then moved on to more difficult designs and cuts. Gregory turned his initial interest in woodworking into a full-time career and began selling his work to others.

Gregory: I love making friends, family, and customers smile when I show them my work. It makes me smile and they are very impressed. When they visit my booth at art festivals, I make many new friends.

Gregory’s story and his woodworking career are a great example of how one person can inspire thousands. Although it is an investment, it doesn’t have to be expensive, as you can get under table saws. Despite his illness, he found his passion and used it to get the best out of it. This included the income, pride, and fulfillment. His mom feels the same.

Gregory: woodworking allows me to create my own unique way of working.

Michelle: It has improved his self-confidence and self-esteem, and given him the purpose he’s always desired. He is happier, less anxious, and has less worry about his future. He also maintains his body and mind in good shape. He is proud of his contribution to his income.

Woodworking is a great hobby if you’re inspired or have a friend who would like to learn. You can start by focusing on the benefits of woodworking and then build your own workshopsecond. Woodworking projects are great for kids. Gregory is a testament to this.

Gregory: woodworking is for those who can focus and remain calm. Not everyone can do this.

Safety is always a concern. However, it’s important to remember that proper safety precautions are taken and the necessary guidance will help you in woodworking. Gregory’s focus and meticulous steps are what allow him to work safely, even with his favorite scroll saw, a power drill, or other power tools. We asked Gregory’s mother if safety was a constant concern. She replied that it was.

Michelle: Although safety is always a concern, he is very careful and doesn’t rush and takes safety very seriously. He is very easy to work with on the saw.
